Civitas Law’s specialist Landlord and Tenant practitioners, will deliver a range of seminars providing legal updates, practical hints and tip to practitioners to help navigate the legal issues affecting the domestic rental market in Wales.
The 3-part series takes place on 25 & 26 May 2022 and 9 June 2022 at Civitas Law Chambers (38 Cathedral Road, Pontcanna, CF11 9LL).

In this first free event, barristers from Civitas Law will cover:
Barrister Cathrine Grubb will give an overview of the main changes being implemented by the Act and what steps landlords need to take to ensure they comply with the new legislation.
Barrister Matthew Paul will provide useful insight from his experience in Registration and Licensing Appeals on issues relating to suitability and training of those letting and managing domestic rentals.

In this second free event, barristers from Civitas Law will cover:
Owain Rhys James will discuss the changes to possession proceedings being implemented by the Act as well as providing practical guidance on litigating housing claims generally.
The Act provides a number of instances where a landlord’s consent must not unreasonably be withheld. Lucy King will explore those instances and provide useful strategies on how practitioners can avoid pitfalls posed by the new legislation.

In the third and final event in this series, barristers from Civitas Law will cover:
Dominic Evans will detail what a landlord’s repairing obligations will be post 15th July 2022 to include obligations to keep the dwelling in repair, requirements for fitness for human habitation introduced by the Renting Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) (Wales) Regulation 2022, as well as providing useful insight into what this will mean in practice for landlords.
Crash Wigley will give an overview of the main requirements for written statements of contract under the Act, what needs to happen for existing tenancies and licences which convert into occupation contracts, and what the consequences may be when a landlord gets the written statement wrong.
