As you may have seen, the SRA has recently announced a Consumer Protection Review, looking at its overall approach to protecting consumers when they place their trust in a regulated law firm. You can find more information on the SRA website here.

The plan is to begin with a wide scope. Initially the SRA aims to seek as broad a range of views as possible – from within the sector and beyond to understand different viewpoints and build the best possible evidence base, with a range of events and meetings.

This review is in response to significant changes the SRA is seeing in the legal landscape and its associated risks. The regulator has seen a large increase in the number of firms it has had to step-in and close down to protect clients – twice as many last year compared to the year before.

The initial engagement period for the review runs until the end of June.

The webinar

During this webinar you will hear from representatives from the SRA about the review. This will be a unique opportunity to hear more about the review and what it will mean for your firms. It will also be a chance to provide ideas and feedback directly (or after the session via the link above). That feedback will be used to fed into the wider review.

The scope of the review includes:

  • Arrangements for identifying and managing or mitigating risks in the marketplace to clients and client funds.
  • Compensation fund arrangements in light of the risks identified

The SRA wish to hear about the experiences of you and your members, including any concerns, questions or ideas you may have.

If you would like to submit questions in advance then please send them to admin@cardifflaw.org.uk
